HAW RIVER

The beautiful Haw River is a valuable natural resource running from the headwaters of the Cape Fear River Basin to Jordan Lake. The Haw River provides drinking water to many communities, important habitat for wildlife, including endangered species, and recreational and scenic areas. The River is the heart of Saxapahaw located right in the town center. The Buddy Collins Memorial Bridge links the riversides and spans a natural island in the center of the river with Public Trails and easy access. There are kayak and canoe ramps and running trails along the riverside near the Saxapahaw Rivermill.

The Haw River and its tributaries are enjoyed by those who love to hike, paddle, swim, fish, picnic, or simply sit by the water and experience its magic. There is a 300+ acre lake that is part of the haw River located within walking distance from the Rivermill. ** Thanks to the Haw River Assembly for descriptions and photos.
